Attributes guide

Every build in The GOAT is made of eight attributes on a 40-99 scale. They're not decorative: each one feeds specific parts of the simulation: points, rebounds, assists, awards, longevity and the decision moments. This guide shows what each attribute really does, so you steal with intent in the draft.

The scoring attributes

3PT Shooting

The number one engine of your scoring average. No attribute weighs more on points per game. It also defines the Shooting Guard archetype together with Clutch. If your plan is chasing scoring titles (26+ points per game), start here.

Finishing

The second biggest weight in scoring and one of the three pillars of the Center archetype. It also contributes to rebounding: players who finish at the rim fight in the paint. Pairs well with Physical in a power build.

Ball Handling

A hybrid attribute: it feeds scoring (creating your own shot) and is the second engine of assists, behind Passing. Scoring guards need it on both ends.

Clutch

The most underrated attribute in the game. It counts toward your scoring average, dominates the decision moments in key games, especially the final play, and raises your title probability in the playoffs. A 90+ Clutch build converts good seasons into rings; the difference shows up in the verdict.

The playmaking and defense attributes

Passing

The main engine of assists and half the identity of the Point Guard archetype. An average of 8+ assists earns an All-Star nod even without big scoring numbers.

Defense

The road to Defensive Player of the Year and one of the pillars of the Center archetype. It also boosts your team when you choose a defensive focus for the season. Defense barely moves your scoring average, but it is the most direct route to individual trophies.

Rebounding

The dominant engine of rebounds per game. Averaging 11+ boards earns All-Star selections on its own. Centers and power forwards live off it; point guards can sacrifice it guilt-free.

Physical

It contributes to rebounding and defines the Power Forward archetype together with Finishing, but its most valuable effect is longevity: the higher your Physical, the slower the age curve bites after 29. Careers of 15+ seasons chasing historic totals are built on high Physical.

The age curve

Every player rises to a peak, holds it, then declines:

That means peak seasons are few. Plan to be on a competitive team when they arrive, because that's when MVPs and rings are realistic.
